Corporate Secretary

Client

The trade association for the world’s airlines, representing some 280 airlines or 83% of total air traffic across 120 countries.

Mission

We were mandated to identify, attract and integrate the organization’s Corporate Secretary, a Board appointed role that reported into the Director General.
We were looking for an experienced Corporate Secretary that had the gravitas and experience in steering the “right” business agenda to the Board, and excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills.
The Corporate Secretary was also intended to take on the General Counsel role at the end of 2019, hence our focus to secure candidates with the right combination of competencies and expertise required for this future dual position.
Diversity was a strong requirement for this mandate.

Search strategy

Our team ran a global search and selection process, focusing on identifying, evaluating and developing top executives coming from a B2B Corporate environment.
The talent mapping exercise covered global organizations and associations that could offer profiles with the right caliber of expertise and skills set.

Results

Following a fully global and systematic search approach to market, we selected profiles that offered the most potential to be successful in the role given their experience, leadership competencies, and cultural fit. Our presented longlisted included executives from Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Switzerland and wider Europe. Eight experienced Corporate Secretary/ General Counsel profiles, of which six were women were presented. An extensive client interview process led to two finalists with the Director General providing his assessment to the Chair Committee of the Board.
The successful executive offered 20+ years of international experience with large companies, including more than nine years of experience as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
